Connect your Google Calendar
Your Calendar page shows a sample calendar until you connect your own. Once it is connected, every event you add in Google Calendar shows on your site by itself. You never update it in the builder.
You need a Google Calendar for the church. Other calendars, like Outlook or Apple Calendar, cannot be connected. Do this on a computer. Google’s calendar settings are hard to reach on a phone.
Step 1: Make your calendar public and copy its ID
Section titled “Step 1: Make your calendar public and copy its ID”These steps happen in Google Calendar, not in the builder.
- Open calendar.google.com on a computer. Click the gear at the top right, then Settings.
- On the left, under Settings for my calendars, click your church calendar.
- Under Access permissions, turn on Make available to public. If Google asks you to confirm, click OK. Without this step, visitors see nothing.
- Scroll down that same page to the Integrate calendar heading.
- Copy the Calendar ID. It looks like an email address, for example yourchurch@group.calendar.google.com.
Step 2: Connect it in the builder
Section titled “Step 2: Connect it in the builder”- In the panel on the left, under Pages, click Calendar.
- Click the calendar, or click Connect your Google Calendar at its top left. The Connect your Google Calendar window opens. It shows the same steps as above.
- Paste the Calendar ID into Calendar ID, embed link, or embed code. You can also paste the link or the whole Embed code from the Integrate calendar heading.
- Click Connect calendar.
- Click Publish. See Publish your site.
Events show in the calendar’s own time zone, the one set in Google Calendar. To connect a different calendar later, click Change your Google Calendar on the same page.
No calendar? Turn the page off
Section titled “No calendar? Turn the page off”If your church does not keep a Google Calendar, switch the Calendar page off. Open its Page settings and turn off Page published. See Show or hide a page.
If it does not work
Section titled “If it does not work”- “That is not a Calendar ID or an embed link.”: Copy the Calendar ID from under the Integrate calendar heading. It looks like an email address. A web address copied from the top of your browser will not work.
- The calendar shows nothing: The calendar is not public yet. Go back to step 1 and turn on Make available to public.
- Publish says “The Calendar page still shows the sample calendar.”: Connect your calendar, or switch the Calendar page off.
