Move a photo to frame it

A photo fills its box, so the edges can be cut off. Slide the photo to choose which part shows. This is useful when a box cuts through people’s heads.

You can only slide a photo that is bigger than its box. If the whole photo already shows, there is nothing to move.

On a computer:

  1. Point at the photo. The pointer turns into a hand.
  2. Press and hold the mouse button, and drag the photo. It moves the way you drag it.
  3. Let go. The builder says Photo repositioned.

You can use the keyboard too. Press Tab until the photo is outlined, then press the arrow keys. Hold Shift with an arrow key to move it farther.

On any computer, phone or tablet:

  1. Click the photo. The Replace image window opens.
  2. Under Frame this photo, click the arrow buttons. Each press moves the photo a little, on the page as well as in the window.
  3. When it looks right, close the window with Cancel. The move is already kept. You do not need to choose a new photo or click Apply.

Frame this photo shows only when the photo is bigger than its box.

On a computer, drag the photo the same way as above. Start the drag on an empty part of the photo, away from the words and buttons.

On any computer, phone or tablet:

  1. Point at the section. A dark bar appears at its top right. On a phone or tablet, the bar is always there.
  2. In the bar, click the Background button. It looks like a paint drop.
  3. In the Section background panel, click the four arrow buttons at the bottom, under Template default. Each press moves the photo a tenth of the way.
  4. Click anywhere outside the panel to close it.

Click Publish to put the new framing on your live site.

Dragging a photo with your finger scrolls the page instead. Use the arrow buttons. After you replace a photo, tap it again to open Frame this photo.

  • The photo does not move when I drag it: The whole photo already shows in its box, so there is nothing to slide. To show a different part, choose a wider or taller photo.
  • There is no Frame this photo in the window: The photo fits its box. See the line above.
  • “… is editing the site now”: Someone else has the site open. See Take over editing from someone else.
